Dragos - Fires Over Hellenasville

Kobold Encounters

Start Date: 8th & 15th June 2010
Location: Kingdom Games & Comics, Palmer, Alaska
Event: Kobold Encounters

Having taken down the first group of kobolds, the party decides to rest, and recover from their decisive victory. Drak and Nimbula retire from the caverns to investigate some sounds coming from behind the party. So far they have failed to report back on their findings.

After his recovery from his capture at the parties hands, Jacobs decides to send down a team to watch over them, and assist in the recovery of the last of the paintings that his team had been sent to find. This group consisted of three members of the Order of the Drakine, his trusted agent Draken, and two longstanding members, Sky and Tabbz, who arrived in the caverns as Kitty, Wrath and Damien were fighting another group of kobolds.

The arrival of the Order’s members helped turn the tide of the fight, and it wasn’t long before the joint party found themselves under attack from a group of kobold reinforcements. Cleaning up the first group, the party believed they heard a second group of kobolds heading their way, and planned an ambush. However, the kobolds were either aware of the ambush, or had plans of their own, and Wrath opted to take them on head-on, and charged their position. Luck prevented him falling into a pit, which the kobolds had obviously intended to have attackers fall into. Instead, as the battle started, Wrath took great advantage of his larger size, and skills, and threw kobolds into the pit, and as his fellow party members cleaned up above, he dropped into the pit, finishing off those within.

With the caverns finally cleared, the party searched the area, coming up with the last of the paintings, all of which seemed to revolve around a battle. Most disturbingly, this last picture showed a dark shape rising from the Citadel of Three Towers as it burned.

Left Hand, Right Hand

Start Date: 13th April 2010
Location: Kingdom Games & Comics, Palmer, Alaska
Event: Left Hand, Right Hand

Having searched the room at the base of the tower, the party found a few items of value that they would be able to sell on their return to the surface, and decided not to check out the room below until later. Instead the proceeded cautiously down the corridor that led along the underside of the city wall, to emerge into a large room with a raised platform, and evenly placed statues.

From his vantage point at the front Wrath Cat noticed that the figure at the back was wearing a symbol of the Order of the Drakine, while he and his friends were searching the statues, unaware of the parties approach. Of course, this did not prevent other members of the party from rushing forward to take advantage of the element of surprise, and attacking those closest to them. Despite having archers, and close combat specialists, the fight was uneven, and the party prevailed, with the searchers unconscious while the leader (Jacobs) was forced to surrender.

Jacobs identified himself as a priest of the Order, operating on orders from superiors that he would not identify. When asked if he knew Teland, the parties recruiter, he admitted that he did, even if he rarely referred to his college by name (just ‘the recruiter’). The party decided not accept this story at face value, and they split up. One half of the party stayed to guard Jacobs and his men, and the other half went to check the story with Teland. While Teland was unaware of the mission that Jacobs was on, he knew he was not part of the group he had sent the party to find. He requested that the group bring Jacobs and his men to one of the Order’s healing houses, and when the party did this they found that there were no identifying signs of the order’s presence.

Kitty, Nimbula, Wrath and Damien decided that they would continue Jacob’s mission and seek out the five paintings they had believed were hidden in the room with the statues. They located three hidden in a small chamber under one of the statues, and two of them showed a scene that looked similar to the burning of the Citadel of the Three Towers, complete with a dark shape flying up through the flames. Moving on they encountered a break in the stonework, which was apparently the end of the underground construction, except for the fact that the wall had crumbled, and opened into a series of caves.

Moving on into the caves, the group encountered a number of kobolds, who spotted the party coming from some distance, due to the light they carried with them. Of course, the four adventurers made a number of very fast kills, and uncovered another of the missing paintings.

Having no interest in delving through the city sewers, and little in the way of serious ties to the rest of the party, Drak took time to investigate the mysterious necrotic mask that he had acquired from Danealle of House Rath. Making his first stop at one of the cities libraries, where he had assistance from one of his allies, he spent quite some time examining historical, religious, and arcane texts. The few references he could find linked the mask to an entity called Kethalmyre, though he was unable to establish if this was a person, creature, or forgotten deity.

Seeking to spread the search, he moved on to the Temple of Ioun, where he enlisted the help of the High Priestess. She was able to link the name Kethalmyre to a myth of a text called the ‘The Word of Kethalmyre’, and this was where the search hit a wall. The information on ‘The Word’ was sparse, almost criminally so, as if someone had tried to purge any written references to this supposedly subversive text.

Meetings & Missions

Start Date: 6th April 2010
Location: Kingdom Games & Comics, Palmer, Alaska
Event: Meetings & Missions

Drak decided to follow through with the meeting he had arranged with the House Rath trader, Danealle. Meeting in the agreed alley way, Danealle notes that punctuality is appreciated in his dealings. He led the way through the city to a large trading post, where he explained that the the men who had been chasing him were members of a group known as the Order of the Drakine. They had been trying to retrieve one of three objects, but he didn’t know why. Examining Drak the masks that he was shown, Drak found that they radiated a slight necrotic-aura, and offered to find out why they Drakine had been seeking them, but would need one as a means to open enquiries. Reluctantly, Danealle agreed, and sent Drak on his way.

While Drak was heading back to the Inn of the Broken Moon, Kitty, Wrath and Jacob were meeting with the Order of the Drakine, hoping to get an introduction into the organisation. They were offered the chance to complete a test, which would prove them willing to assist the Order, and ensure that they had the mix of skills to be useful. The watchful eyes of Nimbula watched over the meeting, listening to everything, and observing without comment. The group was offered the choice of two tasks, investigate the ruins of the Citadel of the Three Towers, in the hopes of discovering what had really happened on the day of it’s destruction, or to investigate the reason why a team of Drakine operatives had gone missing in the sewers the base of a tower at the city wall.

Drak arrived around this time, and took up seats near the meeting, hoping to find out more about the Order of the Drakine, and both he and Nimbula found themselves roped into the mission as additional support. Between the five it was decided that the group would tackle the question of the missing Drakine members, since the mystery of the Citadel would still be there afterwards. This pleased the members of the Order greatly, since this was the correct response to the first part of the test.

After grabbing supplies, the mission began with the decent into the sewers of the city. The group was immediately attacked by several armed men, who fought to the last man. Showing restraint, the last man was left alive, but severly intimidated, and was questioned, before being let loose. He confessed that he had been part of a team sent by the Elder Council to investigate the reasons for the Order of the Drakine’s presence in the sewers. As soon as they had entered the sewers they themselves had been attacked, and had defended themselves against the attackers. Unfortunately, none of the attackers at the sewer entrance had been left alive to be questioned, so they had been about to deeper into the complex, when the party arrived. Expecting to be attacked, they had acted first. Finally letting the Elder Council’s agent loose, they watched him run, and heard him shout that there were more deeper inside.

Moving on, the investigators found themselves in a room that looked like the base of the towers, but did not lead up to the ground level, but deeper into the sewers, or down stairs into another chamber. The party found themselves attacked again, and fought their way clear, despite the presence of an archer who attacked from cover. Having cleared the room, the party decided to take a short rest.

Player Introductions (continued)

Start Date: 30th March 2010
Location: Kingdom Games & Comics, Palmer, Alaska
Event: Clues and Introductions

Kitty Decided that she was going to dispose of the paper that she had found in her pocket. After a quick piece of thinking, she decided to place it in someone else’s pocket, and leave the matter there. Unfortunately, she was caught in the act, and it was only the timely intervention of her friend WrathKat that prevented her from being accosted by the intended victim. A brief fight resulted in the victim unconscious on the floor of the bar. WrathKat found the piece of paper that Kitty had planted on the victim before the militia arrived to investigate the fight. He held onto the paper while the militia questioned the patrons, and came up empty.

Meanwhile, Kitty made her way back onto the streets, and encountered militia members seeking out two men, who they claimed to be part of a subversive group, and a danger to the city. Deciding to head back to the inn where she had last seen them, Kitty went to investigate these men for herself, especially since they were with the man who had left the paper in her pocket.

Damian Jacobs was still in the Inn of the Broken Moon when the militia arrived with the flyers, looking for the men from the Order of the Drakine. He informed the militia members that the two men in the pictures had left the inn only a few minutes ago, but could not tell which way they went.

Briefly seated together, Wrathkat and Kitty decide on a course of action, while Damien stands off to one side, listening to the three men at the table. As Kitty decides to go join the men, and find out more about them, and why they had handed her the paper, Wrathkat and Damien take up positions that let them observe the action. It is Damien’s warning that the groups is being watched by a fourth person that prompts Wrathkat to take up a position to watch that individual. Clever use of powers allows all three members of the group to remain in contact while Kitty is advised that the paper was an offer of membership in the organisation the three men belonged to. The goal of this group was to bring about a brighter future for the world, through small acts and the gathering of funds and items that would help move towards this goal. The invitation was extended to all three, and they were advised that they were invited to a meeting the very next day.

Start Date: 23rd March 2010

Event: Random Encounters In Hellenasville

Kitty was wandering the streets of Hellenasville looking for a suitable mark, attempting to make a little money for the day. Spotting her target she achieved her objective with the minimum of fuss, only to have the tables turned on her. Checking her pockets she discovered a piece of paper with an emblem drawn on it, a circle with a flame inside it. She followed the pickpocket to the Inn of the Broken Moon, where she was in time to see him take a table by himself, and order three drinks.

Damian Jacobs was washing dishes at home when he spotted a man being wrestled to the ground outside his home. Investigating the incident, he found that two militia guard were arresting a visitor to the city for theft. While they were conducting the arrest, Damian spotted an unusual pendant hanging around the man’s neck. Using his powers, he managed to free the pendant from the man’s neck without being caught. Checking it more closely, he found that it bore a circle with a flame embossed within it. Curiosity got the better of him, and he followed the militia and the alleged criminal to the Inn of the Broken Moon, where he was handed off to three members of the Order of Justice.

While watching people go by in the park, Zartik spotted two men following a third. Choosing to investigate, he followed the three of them towards the Inn of the Broken Moon, where the three of them entered. The man being followed went to his own table, but didn’t order anything. His followers took up positions to one side of the door. Projecting his thoughts into the lone man’s head, he advised that he be ready to make his exit, just wait for the opportunity. At this point Zartik approached the two men, and loudly, and at some length tried to sell them on a new religious experience. In the confusion, the lone man takes his opportunity, and leaves rapidly, but not so rapidly that Zartik is unable to follow him. Introducing himself to the man he aided, he finds that the man he assisted was Danealle Silvertail of House Rath, one of the cities trading houses. It seems that the men had been trying to obtain some items that he was preparing to trade at an upcoming auction.

Following the incident with Zartik, the two men take seats with the man that Kitty had followed. It is while the three of them are talking that Kitty overhears mention that the two had failed to capture their target, and obtain the items they had been sent to collect. The third man tells his colleagues that he managed to drop the paper into the pocket of the potential recruit, at which point Kitty leaves, and disposes of the paper she’d been given.

Attack On The Citadel - Introduction
Prequel to Fires Over Hellenasville Campaign

Time & Date:

Start Date: 9th March 2010
Start Time: 8pm – close
Location: Kingdom Games & Comics, Palmer, Alaska
Event: Fall of the Citadel of the Three Towers – Fires Over Hellenasville (Prequel)

A group of prisoners were being escorted back to their cells in the Citadel of the Three Towers, when reptilian creatures attacked the guards who were escorting them back to their cells. The first guard fell, unexpectedly, to an arrow through the throat. Rather than try and continue to detain the prisoners, the guards opted to allow them to join the defense.

Fighting through the first wave of attackers, the guards helped the prisoners locate weapons and armor, in the hopes of providing them the means to survive the attack, or at the very least reduce the number of attackers. Having considered their options, the guards decided to go help the judges of the Order of Justice, who were fighting in the Tower of Judgement, while the prisoners opted to head towards the chapel, and assist any civilians, or priests of the Order. Despite a very valiant attempt to fight through the invaders, the prisoners were not in time to stop the deaths of the priests, but they did manage to interrupt the body looting that was going on.

They finally fought their way to the entrance hall, and freedom, only to find themselves facing overwhelming odds. Taking advantage of gaps in the oncoming forces, the prisoners took cover, as wave after wave of reptilian invaders swept past them. Just as the last invaders passed their position, a huge explosion rocked the area, and a huge winged shape was silhouetted against the fireball. An angry roar split the air as the creature took to the air, and rained destruction down on the invading forces. The prisoners took advantage of the confusion to flee the scene, and live the rest of their lives as free citizens.
